Osbone®: The synthetic alternative without biological history
This area of our homepage specifically targets medical professionals and users.
Osbone®
- is a synthetic, spongious, open-cell bone replacement material for filling bone defects.
- From a chemical standpoint, it is a hydroxyapatite (chemical formula Ca5(PO4)3OH, or, as usually written, Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2).
- No product-induced residual risk of infection and allergy
- Simplified patient education: No discussions about the origin of the material
Hydroxyapatite as a Bone Replacement Material
Hydroxyapatites have been used as bone replacement material in the entire skeletal system for many decades.A distinction is generally made between hydroxyapatites
- synthesised from the minerals calcium and phosphate,
- and hydroxyapatites of allogenic or xenogenic origin.
Allogenic vs. Xenogenic Hydroxyapatites
Hydroxyapatites of human origin require extensive donor programs to ensure traceability.Animal herds involved in the production xenogenic hydroxyapatites must be kept isolated in accordance with strict guidelines. Although the security standards for the manufacture of bone replacement material are very high, a potential residual risk of the transmission of infections cannot be completely ruled out. There also remains a residual risk of allergies.
The Synthetic Alternative
Earlier generations of synthetic hydroxyapatites did not always achieve the desired clinical results due to their low porosity and insufficient biocompatibility.Osbone®, by contrast, is extremely biocompatible thanks to its high porosity and state-of-the-art production methods. The material facilitates rapid osseointegration, resulting in a highly stable implant bed.
Synthetically derived drugs and medical products can be manufactured to higher standards of purity, meeting the requirements of modern medicine – a fact that has already been realized in many medical fields.
With Osbone®, you offer your patients an alternative without a biological history, reducing your patient information timeframe and liability exposure.
